Taking walks around Manhattan I collected various impressions that inspired me by taking photographs of them. Once developed the actual photographs contained many distracting objects within each frame. Cutting out the essential pieces from each photograph and putting several image fragments together depending on 'per day' routes or specific explorations was then a way to keep those specific memories. At the same time the collages enable the observer to see the memories through my eyes.
This is pretty much how the brain works - impossible to memorize every single item (on the way to work for example), the brain selectively takes snapshots of apparent important itmes along the way.
The objects are currently exhibited at Hilton Beijing. Average size 25x25cm.
